Task 1:

Week 1: You will be going on a fieldtrip to your local Norman castle called 'The Black Castle.

Play the Voki to hear the introduction:

Below are a list of your names and the groups to which you have been assigned to for our history project. The names of the groups correlate to names associated with Norman times.

Task 1:

  • Today we are going on a fieldtrip to the local Norman castle called the 'Black Castle' in Leighlinbridge.
  • When we are on a fieldtrip we must keep in mind different aspects of the Normans; the location and landscape of where the Norman Castle is situated, the daily life of a person living during Norman times, the types of food the Normans ate, the type of clothes they wore and finally the aspects of deffence that are evident from the Norman castle.

  • Your group will have a specific topic to focus on for the duration of our project.
  • This is called jigsaw learning.
  • By the end of our project you will have to teach the other students the area of the Normans that you had to focus on

Groups for the Project:

  • The Normans will focus on the location and surroundings of the castle.
  • The pages will focus on the defensive features of the castle.
  • The squires will focus on the food and clothes during the Norman times, where they ate and slept and what they ate.
  • The knights will focus on the daily life of a Norman boy.
  • You will have to take pictures of aspects of the castle that support the specific topic that they are focusing on.
  • Don't worry if you don't get enough photo's taken while at the Castle as some of the topics are difficult to get photos for, I can provide you with some.
  • We will then use the pictures to make an auto collage upon returning to the classroom.

Action:

  • Here is where all your hard work comes into play.
  • You have to use the pictures you took and create an autocollage.

Things to Remember when Making an Autocollage:

  1. Use large, clear images.
  2. Use pictures relevant to the topic that you chose.
  3. Don't add too many pictures or the images will not be clear individually.
  4. Ensure everybody in the group is partaking.
